的 基本需求 持久性格兰特 addresses insecurities related to food, housing, transportation, mental and physical health, childcare and technology. 与现有的 academic support structures, strategic community partnerships, and direct financial 援助, this grant will promote persistence and degree completion for students experiencing a hardship adversely affecting their basic needs.

Students may request grant funding for a recent unforeseen basic need hardship, that if not resolved by end of semester, will result in 学生's separation from the university or difficulty in 成功fully completing the semester.

合格标准

  • Actively enrolled for the current semester at the time of application. 本科 degree-seeking student actively enrolled in 9+ credit hours or graduate degree-seeking students actively enrolled in 6+ credit hours for the current semester.
  • U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident.
  • Experiencing or experienced a recent unforeseen hardship, which created a financial loss that threatens 学生's continued enrollment or academic 成功.  一个“不可预见的 hardship" is defined as an unplanned event within the last 30 days, beyond 学生's control and not caused by 学生's own negligence, lack of planning, and/or money 管理不善. A "financial loss" is defined as an adverse change in financial circumstances or significant decrease in income.
  • Exhausted all other financial 资源, including financial aid/loans and personal 资源.
  • Must not have records of any disciplinary misconduct within a year up to applying 申请补助金. Students must disclose any of their violations of the Student Code 的行为准则 学生政策手册 的UHCL.
  • Must submit online 基本需要补助金 Application and provide adequate documentation regarding the nature of the financial hardship and documentation of expenses(s).

    • Explanation and date of recent unforeseen hardship event. 
    • Documentation to verify each expense (itemized):

      • Loss of employment, change in financial circumstances or loss/decrease in income.
      • Official report from police or a campus department regarding loss, theft or safety 关注.
      • Notice or verification of support from social services, homeless shelter, community agency or a letter/成功 plan from a UHCL campus department.

  • Debt, credit card/loan payments or balances, legal fees, civil/municipal or government 费用和罚款等.
  • Elective/cosmetic medical procedures
  • Down payment/purchase of a vehicle.
  • Reimbursements for paid expenses.
  • Expenses for anyone other than 学生.
  • Non-essential personal expenses (i.e., cable, vacation travel, pet expenses, 等.).

Prior to receiving basic needs funding, applicants may be encouraged or required to complete one or more of the following to develop self-advocacy and/or financial literacy 技能:

  • 联系 one or more UHCL support services departments or community agencies for academic 或个人资源(如.e., 学生的成功 Center, 职业服务, Parenting 资源, 等.).
  • Schedule an appointment or service related to the basic needs request (i.e.、健康/精神 Health Services, SNAP-Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program application 援助, 等.).
  • Complete a self-advocacy session or workshop (i.e., financial literacy/coaching, professional/personal development, career advising or career exploration workshop, 等.).

评价 is based on eligibility criteria. 优先考虑: 

    • Students with demonstrated financial need based upon the FAFSA or TASFA.
    • Students in good disciplinary standing.

Once approved to receive the 基本需要补助金, the typical distribution process may take 2-5 business days (based on refund selection).

重要的信息

  • 基本需求 持久性格兰特s are awarded according to the availability of funds 每年. Students may 申请 持久性格兰特 more than once. 累积 grant awards may not exceed $1,000 per student, per academic career. 持久性格兰特 aid does not need to be repaid.
  • Rental 援助 is a one-time award of up to 50% of monthly rent (not to exceed $1,000), and will be factored into a student's cumulative award. 
  • Approved requests for the current semester will be processed after the census date.  
  • 的 processing of funds will be canceled if 学生 drops below part-time enrollment 处于或退出UHCL.

  • Once a completed application is received, it will be sent to the UHCL Office of Financial 帮助他们复习. If awarding of the Grant will result in a dollar-for-dollar reduction to other aid, the grant will not be awarded. In these cases, students will be informed of the outcome and of any alternative options for 援助.
  • Applications will be evaluated and processed in 5-10 business days, based on the documentation 提供. Missing and incomplete documentation will further delay processing.
  • 基金 can be available to students within 2-5 business days, from the date of the 批准. During peak periods, response and award time may be delayed. 
  • Grant funding is not guaranteed and is not meant to provide long-term relief to students. Students will be referred to campus or community 资源 for long-term 成功 plans.
